Platsa
is situated 54 kilometes away from Kalamata, in altitude of 250
metres.
Pigi is one of the settlements in
the Municipal department of Platsa, that belongs to Messinian Mani.
Leaving
Kalamata and after 54 kilometers through the pictoresque villages,
historical and archaeological places, there is Pigi that is built
on the top of a hill, in an altitude of 250 metres. As you approach
the village, you think that the trees protect the area as a mother
would care for her child. The splendid view to Taigetos, the
Messinian Gulf, and the blue Ionian makes the village special. Today,
in the early 21st century, in the village live 12 greek pensioners
and 12 foreigners with their families. The settlement's population
increases during the Easter and summer. Greek, Austrian, Germans
and English enjoy their vacations peacefully. The church, built
in 1897 over a smaller church, is dedicated to Holy Mary as she
is the protectoe of the village. This church and 13 others keep
the religious sentiments of the residents alive.
