Proastio
or Prastio, is built on a hill in an altitude of 250 metres in that
manner that none of the houses can be seen by the pirates, from
the sea. Proastia or Prastia during the byzantine era were the pieces
of land that emperors vested to lords of the area. The
village of Proastio was vested to Melissinoi a few centuries before
the catalysis of the Byzantine. Melissinoi brought the byzantine
customs to the area. That is why in the area there is a great amount
of churches and monasteries. After
the liberation and the establishment of the greek state, Proastio
became the principle of the homonym municipality, in 1836. Saidona,
Lakkos and Petrovouni ware part of the Municipality of Proastio,
until 1840, when the municipality incorporated in municipality of
Kardamili. In
1914, was established the community of Proastio, that today is one
of the provinces of Municipality of Lefktro. 1 kilometre away from
the village there is the Kalamitsi beach, one of the three beaches
of the area. The other two are the Dolfins and the Foneas beach.
In Proastio there is a great number of churches The most important
are: The Holy Mary St Nikolaos Sts Theodoroi Apart from the traditional
architecture and the churches, it
is worht seen also the castle of the former Mayor, the beautiful
stone built bridge and the stone built fountains in the entrance
of the village.
