Thalamai
was one of 18 ancient towns controlled by Eleftherolacones who had
established their cities by the sea. Many information about Eleftherolacones
have been found by the work of two known ancient geographers Stravon
and Pafsanias. Stravon lived about the same period as Jesus (7b.C.
- 23a.C.) and is considered as the most interesting geographer and
historian of antiquity. Pafsanias lived the 2nd century a.D and
used to give very vivid and detailed descriptions of the places
he traveled. Both Stravon and Pafsanias described Thalamai with
enthusiasm.

Close
to the ancient city of Thalamai, on the way to Itilon was the temple
of goddess Inous. The temple was also an oracle which Spartans used
to counsel once a year. Outside the temple were two statues made
of brass: the statues of Ilios and Pasifai. Inside the temple was
the statue of Selini, also made of brass.
Residents
of Thalamai worshiped Inous from 15th century B.C Till 500 A.D ,almost
2.000 years. Goddess Inous according to ancient greek mythology
was the daughter of Kadmos and Armonia. Inous was also nurse of
god Dionissos after the death of Semeli. Inous became protector
of sailors in danger.

Thalamai was the center of the federation
which Eleftherolacones had created. Lefktron was also a part of
the federation. Founders of Thalamai were Minies, the oldest tribe
of Greece, who came to Pelloponesse from Viotia.
